Paolo Ferrero

Paolo Ferrero ( born November 17, 1960 in Pomaretto, Province of Turin, Italy ) is an Italian politician of the Refoundation and was from May 2006 to May 2008, as the only minister of his party, department chief of Social Solidarity in the coalition cabinet of Prime Minister Romano Prodi.

Ferrero grew up on the outskirts of Turin, last Villar Perosa, the residence of the Agnelli family. At 17, he joined the Democrats Proletaria. After graduating from the Gewerbeoberschule Ferrero worked from 1978 in the Fiat plant of Villar Perosa. In contrast to most representatives of his party Ferrero is a member of the Italian Church of the Waldenses professing Christian and led from 1986 to 1987 the National Youth Association of Chiesa Evangelica Valdese.

After the layoffs at Fiat ( funded by the Cassa Integrazione Guadagni ) Ferrero became a full- time politician with 27 years. From 1993 to 1997 he was a member of the City Council of Turin and led the Council Group of Refoundation, on whose foundation the Democrats Proletaria had been involved in 1991.

2006 Ferrero was first elected in the constituency II of Piedmont for his party in the Chamber of Deputies. After the coalition negotiations, he was appointed Minister of Social Affairs; his seat took over Anna Maria Cardano.
