Papineau (Montreal Metro)

Papineau is a metro station in Montreal. It is located in the Arrondissement Ville- Marie at the intersection of Rue Sainte -Catherine and Papineau Avenue. Building

Designed by the architectural firm Bolduc et Venne station emerged as relatively sober designed tunnel station, with tiles in light brown shades. Art

A series of three murals adorns the arch over the entrance to the platform level, similar to a triptych. The work Les Patriotes de 1837-1838 by George Juhasz and Jean Cartier reminiscent of the Lower Canada Rebellion in 1837 and 1838. History

The opening of the station took place on 14 October 1966, forth together with the section of Atwater. Papineau part of the basic network of Montreal Metro and was for a little over two months, the eastern terminus of the Green Line on until it was extended after Frontenac on 19 December 1966. The namesake of the station is the Papineau Avenue. This is named after the Quebec politician Joseph Papineau (1752-1841), the father of rebel leader Louis -Joseph Papineau.
