Green Line (Montreal Metro)

The Line 1, also called " Green Line " (French Ligne verte ) called, is one of four subway lines of the Montreal Metro. It is 22.1 km long and has 27 stations. It started operating was in stages from 1966 until 1978.

The line runs mainly in northeast-southwest direction. Are developed, while the Montreal arrondissement Mercier - Hochelaga -Maisonneuve, Ville- Marie, Le Sud -Ouest and Verdun and Westmount community. The section through the city center is the most frequented of the entire Metro network. Interchanges exist at the station Berri- UQAM to line 2 and line 4 as well as at the station Lionel - Groulx on line 2

History

The section between the stations Atwater and Papineau was opened on 14 October 1967, and thus part of the basic network of the metro. The completion of smaller sections was delayed by several months. On 19 December 1966, the extension of Papineau followed by Frontenac, two days later the intermediate station Beaudry was added. The construction of the second stage began in 1971, after Montreal had won the bid to host the 1976 Olympic Games. The goal was to convey the numerous visitors to the Olympic Park. The opening of the section between Frontenac and Honoré Beaugrand - on June 6, 1976 six weeks before the start of the Summer Olympic Games. The closure was the third expansion stage between Atwater and Angrignon, which went into operation on September 3, 1978.
