Yellow Line (Montreal Metro)
Line 4, also called " Yellow Line " (French Ligne jaune ) called, is one of four subway lines of the Montreal Metro and also the shortest. It is 4.25 km long and is one of three stations. Put into operation it was in 1967.
The line connects the Arrondissement Ville- Marie in Montreal with the city of Longueuil on the opposite shore of the St. Lawrence River. Building is also located in the current Île Sainte -Hélène. The only transit traffic to the rest of Metro network consists of the western terminus of the Berri- UQAM to line 1 and line 2 The eastern terminus Longueuil - Université -de- Sherbrooke opening up a campus of the Université de Sherbrooke and is also the site of a major bus station that of more than 60 bus routes will be approached.
History
When the Montreal city council in November 1961 decided to build the metro backbone network, the line was 4 first not provided. A year later, however, Montreal won the bid to host the World Expo 67 To the exhibition area to open up on two islands in the St. Lawrence River and to connect the rapidly growing suburb of Longueuil, the construction of the ( ultimately never materialized ) line 3 has been postponed and pulled one instead before line 4. She was eventually taken on April 28, 1967 the day after the official opening of the Expo, into operation.
Expansion plans
In April 2008, the city council of Montreal proposed a number of service improvements and extensions of the metro. Since the line is one heavily used between stations Berri- UQAM and McGill at peak times, the line should be extended 4 there to relieve this section.
The Agence métropolitaine de transport, published in December 2011, the study Vision 2020. According to this should be the line 4 continued in the city Longueuil in until the boulevard Rolland - Therrien. The six new stations would thereby connect residential areas, shopping centers and several schools.
