Papradno

Papradno ( until 1927 slovak " Papradné " or " Papradno "; Hungarian Kosárfalva - to 1907 Papradno ) a place and a municipality in Okres Považska Bystrica Region of Trenčín is in the north- west of Slovakia, with 2528 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011).

Geography

The municipality is located in Javorníky, in the valley of the brook Papradnianka, which flows from north to south-east, before flowing into the Waag. Papradno is 16 kilometers away from Považská Bystrica. The municipal area is about 80 percent forested ( mostly conifers).

In addition to the main village belongs to the municipality and the community part Podjavorník ( after the mountain Velky Javorník named ) and other unofficial settlements and hamlets.

History

The settlement of the church today probably began in the 14th century on the former territory of Jasenica. This Wallachian colonization lasted until the 16th century, which also created various hamlets in the mountains. The place is first mentioned in 1525 as Spapradna writing and was the estate of Bitsch tribute.
