Papuan seerfish

Scomberomorus miltiradiatus is a meeresbewohnender predatory fish from the family Scombridae. He is known as a sport fish in commercial fishing he plays a lesser role.

Description

The first dorsal fin consists of 16 to 19 hard jets, the second dorsal fin from 21 to 25 soft rays. This is followed by seven to nine Flössel. The anal fin has 25 to 29 soft rays, followed by six to nine Flösseln. The caudal fin is typical of a fast floating open water fish, large and deeply divided. The pelvic fins are very small and have 20 to 23 soft rays. The pectoral fins approach lies below the midsection.

The body is quite high backs fusiform and compared to those of most other Scomberomorus species. With 35 centimeters maximum length Scomberomorus multiradiatus is the smallest species of the genus. The flanks are silver and not numbered, the back darker. A swim bladder is absent. The lateral line is slightly wavy.

Dissemination and lifestyle

Scomberomorus multiradiatus only occurs in the Gulf of Papua. About the biology of this species is not known. It is probably a pelagic predator.
