Paranam

Paranam on the map of Suriname

Paranam is a place in the Republic of Suriname, in the district of Para, on the left bank of the Suriname. He had about 1,800 inhabitants in 1977.

Paranam the late 1930s as a mining village by the Suriname Aluminum Company ( Suralco ) was established on former plantation areas. In the 1960s, here is a clay factory and an aluminum smelter were built and from the mine village was a factory town with the largest industrial complex of Suriname.

About a 70- km-long high-voltage line of aluminum masts, electrical energy is from hydro power plant ( Brokopondo Reservoir ) transported in Afobaka after Paranam and there supplemented with energy from a turbine center.

The place has factory apartments, retail stores, sports facilities (including swimming pools) and a medical service.
