Paraulopus nigripinnis

The Paraulopus (Size: para = side of, = aulos flute) is a genus of lizard fish relatives ( Aulopiformes ). They come in the Indian Ocean and western Pacific from Japan and the Hawaiian - Emperor chain of islands to Australia and New Zealand before and live mainly on the shelf of the continents and islands in depths of 40 to 600 meters.

Features

Paraulopus species are 8.5 to 35 inches long. Their dorsal fin is supported by ten or eleven, supported the anal fin from eight to eleven, the pectoral fins 13-20 and pelvic fins of nine fin rays. Have Paraulopus types 40 and 52 voided scales along the lateral line of fully formed and 39 to 46 vertebrae.

System

The species of the genus were counted by 2002 to green eyes ( Chlorophthalmus ). The new genus Paraulopus and the family Paraulopidae was established on the basis of six apomorphies, especially features of branchial arch, the ossification of the muscle segments ( bones ) of the caudal fin skeleton and the pelvic girdle.

Species

In the eleven- species genus, two types groups differ, the Paraulopus oblongus group belong to the seven small species and the Paraulopus nigripinnis group, which includes three large growing, to 35 cm long species in New Zealand and off the coast southwestern Australia live.
