Parral (Chihuahua)

Parral, formerly known as San José de Parral and now officially called Hidalgo del Parral, is a city in the Mexican state of Chihuahua with its 100,000 inhabitants, and the seat of the municipality of Hidalgo del Parral.

History

Parral was founded in 1631 by Juan Rangel de Biesma. To 1631 silver mining there has been operated. As there was no silver, most citizens left the city. On July 20, 1923 folk hero Pancho Villa was murdered and buried in Parral. To him, the so-called jornadas Villistas are held every year in honor in July.
