Pas de Quatre

Pas de Quatre (French Dance for Four ) is a 1845 ballet choreographed by Jules Perrot Divertissement.

The piece was commissioned by Benjamin Lumley, then director of Her Majesty's Theatre in London. The music is by Cesare Pugni.

The premiered in London in July 1845 caused a sensation with the public and press. The reason for this was that the original cast of the work combined the four most famous ballerinas of the Romantic on the stage. It was - ordered by increasing age - Lucile Grahn around, Carlotta Grisi, Fanny Cerrito, and Marie Taglioni. To avoid conflicts between the dancers, Perrot put this appearance sequence is fixed for the solos and applause for the order. This prominent cast danced only four performances, including one before Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Great Britain.

Originally, the ballet dancer Fanny Elssler should attend the performance, but she refused. Instead Lucile Grahn its occurred.

Revivals

Nearly a hundred years later the ballet was revived in 1941 by the choreographer Anton Dolin. As an occupation he chose
