Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa ( PRASA ) is a state-owned transport companies in South Africa. PRASA has its headquarters in Pretoria. She is now responsible for a large part of the settlement of passenger transport in South Africa, with four subsidiaries operate in the respective divisions: Metro Rail ( regional transport), Shosholoza Meyl ( intercity ) and Autopax ( bus lines, long-distance bus ). History

1916 became the South African Railways and Harbours, which later became South African Transport Services, united by the establishment of the Union of South Africa, all South African railway companies. On 1 April 1990 Transnet was established, which took over these tasks. Exceptions were all passenger services that were originally managed by the South African Rail Commuter Corporation Limited, also founded on 1 April 1990 ( SARCC ) and later transferred to the current PRASA.

Regional Metrorail systems

On 1 January 1997 Metrorail was an independent business in the Transnet group. In 2006, at our request by the Ministry of Transport the reconciliation of Metrorail in the SARCC, where it now forms the operational area. Regional Metrorail transport systems are available in five metropolitan areas of South Africa:
