Patricia Canning Todd

Patricia " Pat" Canning Todd ( born July 22, 1922 in San Francisco) is a former American tennis player.

She was one of the best players in the post-war period and won in 1947 and 1948, a total of four Grand Slam titles, including one in singles, two doubles and one in mixed doubles.

In 1947 she won the women's singles at the French Championships when she defeated in the final Doris Hart 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. In doubles, she succumbed to her final opponent hard as a partner Louise Brough Clapp the double and Margaret Osborne duPont 5:7, 2:6.

In 1948 she won at the French Open with duration doubles partner Hart in the doubles final against Shirley Fry Irvin and Mary Arnold Prentiss 6-4, 6-2 and could also in mixed the title at the side of her Czech Mixed partner Jaroslav Drobný against her doubles partner Hart, who played with Frank Sedgman, 6:3, 3:6, 6:3.

Todd was 1942-1951 a further 12 times in a Grand Slam final, one of which the individual ( French Open 1950), eight times in a double ( from 1943 to 1951, including four times on the side of Doris Hart), and three times in the Mixed (1942, 2x 1950). Noteworthy here is the fact that Todd lost in the doubles with their partners of the eight lost Grand Slam finals seven times alone against the women's doubles Brought Clapp and Osborne duPont.
