Patrick Roy (politician)

Patrick Roy ( born August 30, 1957 in Denain, Nord; † 3 May 2011 Valenciennes, Nord ) was a French politician of the Parti Socialiste (PS).

Life

Roy began his political career within the PS in local politics and was first in March 2001, Vice - mayor of his native town Denain and at the same time from March 2001 to March 2008 Member of the General Council of the department of Nord.

In June 2002, he was first elected as a member of the National Assembly and represented there until his death, succeeding Patrick Leroy the constituency of North XIX. Between 2008 and his death he was also mayor of Denain.

Roy was not only known for his penchant for red suits in the National Assembly, but also good for heavy metal music, which he defended in public on several occasions, such as during the debates on the law of copyright infringement on the Internet (Haute Autorité pour la diffusion of oeuvres et la protection des droits sur l' Internet ( Hadopi ) ) or at the metal festival Hellfest. In June 2010, he joined together with the heavy metal band Mass Hysteria on the Metallurgicales Festival in Denain.

In November 2010, he announced that he was suffering from a pancreatic tumor. After his announcement to return to the National Assembly in February 2011, he was received during his appearance in Parliament on March 15, 2011 by the other members with a standing ovation when he thanked them for their support in the fight against cancer.
