Career

At the age of 12 years Fagan learned the Snooker know by his brother, who took him to the local snooker club in Dun Laoghaire. At the age of 15 years, he scored his first Century there breaks. His first maximum break he succeeded to his 25th birthday.

One of his first successes was the second place in the English Amateur Championship in 1974, where he was beaten only in the final against Ray Edmonds. Two years later, he performed at the same tournament a record break of 115 and decided therefore, though he did not reach the finals this year, to play snooker professionally.

He had his greatest success in the then inaugural UK Championship in 1977, when he defeated Doug Mountjoy in the final with 12:9. In the same year he also won the Dry Blacktorn Cup and reached a year later the quarterfinals of the World Snooker Championship 1978. Through these achievements he reached in the Snooker season 1978/79 the 11th Place. 1979 and 1981, he came in second place at the Irish Professional Championship.

In the 1988/89 snooker season he did not succeed, a match to win at a world ranking tournament, so he fell back on place 123 of the Snooker world rankings. At this time the world rankings was limited to 128 players. The last 10 players had to compete against 10 qualifiers. Patsy Fagan could not maintain its position there and was eliminated out of the professional snooker sport.
