Paul Alexis

Paul Alexis ( born June 16, 1847 in Aix -en- Provence, Bouches -du -Rhône, † July 28, 1901 in Levallois -Perret, Seine ) was a French writer, playwright and journalist.

Life

After studying law in his hometown Alexis went to Paris, where he became a close friend of Émile Zola and his family. In Paris, he worked for several newspapers contributed, in part, anonymous, works. He wrote, among other things, for the newspapers L' Avenir national, La Cloche, Le Cri du peuple, Gil Blas, Le Journal, and Le Voltaire.

Work

Alexis wrote novels and short stories in the naturalistic style. This is also true for his plays, some of which he wrote with Oscar Méténier. Along with Émile Zola, he was among the group of six. By Paul Cézanne, the painting dates from the years 1869/1870 Paul Alexis reads before Zola, which is in Swiss private ownership in 2012. Henry Céard called Paul Alexis as Zola's shadow.
