Paul Aurelian

Paulinus Aurelianus (also Pol Aurelian, Pol de Léon, or simply Paol, * 5th century, perhaps † 6th century ) was a Celtic saint. He is next to Maklou / Breton: Sant Malou ( Saint- Malo ), Samson of Dol / Breton: Sant Samzun a Zol ( Dol -de -Bretagne ), Brieuc / Breton: Sant Brieg ( Saint- Brieuc ), Tugdual / Breton: Sant Tugdual a Dreger ( Tréguier ), Corentin / Breton: Sant Kaourintin a Gemper (Quimper ) and Paterne / Breton: Sant Patern a Wened ( Vannes ) one of the seven holy founder bishops of Brittany. His feast day is March 12.

His hagiography was recorded in the year 884 of a Breton monk named Wrmonoc. Paulinis was therefore the son of a British chieftain. Like Samson of Dol, Gildas and David of Menevia was Paulinis disciple of St. Hildutus and in the Welsh monasteries Llan Illtyd VAWR (county Glamorganshire ) and Ynys Pyr was formed.

Paulinus founded churches near Llandovery in Carmarthenshire Dyfed County. Already in the year 518 he had a Ty Gwyn ( White Church ) founded in Yr Henllwyn (Age Busch) called Abbey. He probably took part in the Synod of Llanddewi Brefi part in 545. A stone near the village of Saint pump ( Welsh: Five Saints ) in the Dyfed County Cardiganshire, which is dated to the year 550, praise him as the "savior of the faith, stable lover of his country.

Paulinus founded monasteries in Brittany in Lampol, on the Ile- d'Ouessant, on the Île -de -Batz ( where he later died ) and Ocsimor, today's Saint- Pol-de -Léon in Finistère. There he was appointed by the Frankish king Childebert I the first bishop of the city.

Paulinus sister was the St. Sidwell of Exeter.
