Paul Biegel

Paul Biegel ( born March 25, 1925 in Bussum, North Holland province, Netherlands, † October 21, 2006 in Laren, The Netherlands) was a Dutch children's book author.

Life

Biegel grew up as the youngest of nine children, six girls and three boys on. He was not outspoken bookworm, preferring to play outside the house. However, among his favorite reading Grimm's fairy tales and books of Jules Verne. He attended elementary school in Bussum and made his Abitur in 1945 in Amsterdam.

His first story, the disgruntled dwarf Biegel wrote at the age of 14 years. It was published in the newspaper De Tijd. His career choice he could not meet because he realized that he did not have enough talent for the piano. After the Second World War, he spent a year in the United States, where he worked for the magazine The Knickerbocker Weekly. After returning to the Netherlands he wrote for various magazines and began to study law, but he broke off in 1953.

Biegel wrote in the following years, comics, such as Minter and rear, which is divided into a total of 10 stories in 5479 episodes in the daily newspaper Het Vrije people appeared. In 1959 he began his work as a writer of comics in the studio by Marten Toonder for Kappies series.

The first book published Biegel, appeared in 1962 De gouden gitar ( The Golden Guitar ). He was married to Marijke Sträter since 1960. The couple had two children. After the failure of his marriage Biegel known publicly that he was a homosexual.

His more than 50 books have been published in a dozen languages ​​.

Biegel was appointed Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion 1996
