Paul Bohannan

Paul James Bohannan ( born March 5, 1920 in Lincoln, Nebraska, † 13 July 2007 in Visalia, California ) was an American anthropologist and scholar of religion. Together with his wife Laura Bohannan he explored society and religion of the Tiv of Central Nigeria.

He was a lecturer in anthropology at Oxford University, Princeton University, and from 1959 to 1975 at Northwestern University, where he established the study program Economic Anthropology.

He then moved to the University of California, Santa Barbara, and was last Emeritus Professor of Anthropology at the University of Southern California. Paul Bohannan was president of the African Studies Association.
