Paul Delvaux

Paul Delvaux ( born September 23, 1897 in Antheit ( Bug) at Huy, † July 20, 1994 in Furnes, Flanders ) was a Belgian surrealist artist.

Life

Delvaux studied at the " Academy of Fine Arts " in Brussels. After seeing the works of René Magritte and Giorgio de Chirico, he joined the Surrealist movement in 1937. The general public saw his paintings on the Surrealist Exhibition of 1938 in Paris. In 1959, Paul Delvaux participated in documenta 2 in Kassel.

His signature works stand out with realistic background landscapes held facing unclothed women dominate the picture. Another world of Paul Delvaux reveals itself in the world of Railways ( Trains du soir ).

Large-scale wall paintings are in the Ostend Casino to see the Congress Palace Brussels and in the Zoological Institute of Liege.

Delvaux worked since 1945 in the hamlet of St. Idesbald on the Belgian coast, the municipality of Koksijde. There is his works since 1982 a small but interesting museum dedicated.
