Paul-Émile de Souza

Paul -Émile de Souza (* 1930, † June 17, 1999 ) was from 1969 to 1970 head of state of Dahomey, now Benin.

Head of state

After the military coup of Iropa Maurice Kouandété against the used by the military on July 17, 1968 civilian president Émile Derlin Henri Zinsou at 10 December 1969 stood at first Kouandété themselves for three days at the top of the state. On 13 December 1969, Lieutenant-Colonel de Souza as chairman of the ruling Military Council of State. This council was next to him and Kouandété still Benoit Sinzogan.

Planned elections were canceled on April 3, 1970, after the political leaders of northern and southern parts of the country were unable to agree and a civil war was feared. Instead of a three-headed Presidential elections has been installed, its members should be detached head of state. De Souza's term ended on May 7, 1970, when Hubert Maga Coutoucou as a member of this council became president.
