Paul Giger

Paul Giger ( born 1952 in Herisau ) is a Swiss violinist and composer.

Biography and work

Giger received his first violin lessons at the age of eight. 1970/71 he traveled as a street musician in Asia. Subsequently, he studied music in Winterthur and Bern. His teaching diploma with Prof. Peter Mezger he laid in 1976, his soloist diploma with Ulrich Lehmann 1980 He then spent three years as concertmaster of the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra. ; he has worked freelance since 1983.

Giger's repertoire includes the violin repertoire from the baroque to contemporary. Other priorities are improvisation, jazz and various folklore traditions. Pierre Favre, Jan Garbarek, The Hilliard Ensemble, and the Estonian Chamber Choir, among many others among his musical partners.

Giger composed since 1992, choral, orchestral and chamber music, and has presented at six ECM recordings under his own name.
