Paul Helbronner

Paul Helbronner ( born April 24, 1871 in Compiegne, Oise, † October 18, 1938 ) was a French mountaineer and surveyor.

Paul Helbronner, a graduate of the Ecole polytechnique, belonged to a group of French alpinist topographer, by virtue of gaps and the small scale kept the available maps for insufficient. At his instigation of the French Alpine Club convened in December 1902 a topographical Commission, the maps on a large scale (1: 40 000 or 1: 50 000 ) should work. As part of the Commission he worked on in the next few years with the surveying of the French Alps. Among other things, he mounted 1906 La Meije in the Ecrins massif with a small group and extensive equipment for surveying and photographic works. The results of these activities, he published in his monumental work Description géométrique détaillée des Alpes françaises ( detailed geometric description of the French Alps ). The survey work was in 1920 extended to the whole of the French Alps and not completed until 1928.

Then worked Helbronner on the direct geodetic connection of Corsica with the main Alpine ridge.

Paul Helbronner was appointed in 1927 a member of the French Academy of Sciences and was a member of the Bureau des Longitudes.

The Pointe Helbronner in the Mont Blanc Massif bears his name to his memory. Located in Chamonix -Mont- Blanc in Grenoble and streets were named after him.
