Paul Holz

Paul Wood ( born September 27, 1952 in Bottrop ) is a former German football player. The midfielder completed from 1971 to 1981 a total of 201 games in the Bundesliga, scoring 21 goals. He also came up with twelve games in the second division with a hit.

Career

Wood played as a teenager at Rhenaniastraße Bottrop. In the youth team he played with, among others Hartmut Huhse; yet he was discovered by Günter Siebert and committed for Schalke 04. Here he had the same on the opening day of the 1971/72 season in a 5-1 victory in Hanover its first use; He came off the bench for the second half for Huhse. Then he came in his first pro season, although only six more missions, but was able to celebrate the Vice league and cup victory.

After three years in Gelsenkirchen, he had to make room for Hannes Bongartz in the Schalke midfield and accepted an offer of the area neighbors VfL Bochum. Only a year later he moved because of problems with coach Heinz higher to Hannover 96, with which he descended in the Second Division at the end of the season. After half a year in the second division, he returned to the second half of the 1976/77 season to Bochum back. Then he let his career from 1989 to 1991 finish as player-coach of VfL roadstead.

Paul Wood lives in Bocholt and works at a company for drive technology. Wood was the first player who scored a goal in a men's game at the then new Westphalia stadium in Dortmund. The opening match between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04, a benefit match ended 3-0, Wood shot the 1-0.
