Paul Magnette

Paul Magnette ( born June 28, 1971 in Leuven ) is a Belgian political scientist and politician of the Parti Socialiste (PS). He occupied from 2007 to 2013 various ministerial posts. Magnette is since the local elections in 2012 Mayor of Charleroi and took over the chairmanship of the 2013 hp.

Life

Magnette studied political science and has worked as a university lecturer at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. Since July 20, 2007, he was Minister in the Walloon government. 21 December 2007 to 6 December 2011, he was Minister for Climate and Energy in the governments Verhofstadt III, Leterme I, Van Rompuy and Leterme II, 6 December 2011, he was up to the January 17, 2013 Minister for Public Enterprise, Science and Development Cooperation in the government Di Rupo.

In Germany Magnette was known by his suggestion that the French-speaking part of Belgium, the Walloon Region, should join in a breakup of Belgium Germany.

Magnette has written several books on political science. In 2000 he won the Francqui price along with Éric Remacle.
