Di Rupo Government

The Belgian government Di Rupo (sometimes government Di Rupo I) since 6 December 2011 at the office. On December 10, 2011, she received the confidence of the Chamber of Deputies. It consists of thirteen Ministers (Prime Minister included) and six secretaries of state. In addition, a government commissioner was designated on September 21, 2013.

This first of Elio Di Rupo (PS ) -led federal government is composed of the Walloon and Flemish Socialists (PS and sp.a ), the Flemish and Walloon Christian Democrats (CD & V and cdH ) and the Flemish and French-speaking liberals (Open VLD and MR) together.

The government Di Rupo was appointed after the federal elections of 13 June 2010 and the subsequent national crisis of over 541 days of King Albert II; she followed the government Leterme II, Yves Leterme (CD & V). Reason for the failure of the government Leterme II was the conflict around the constituency of Brussels -Halle- Vilvoorde (BHV ). According to the polls, there had been several attempts to form a government with the Flemish national N- VA, the big election winner in Flanders. These were, however, failed after no agreement could be found both at the level of the planned reform of the state with a view to strengthening the communities and regions as well as the federal austerity budget. The Flemish and Walloon Socialists, Christian Democrats, Liberals and Greens ( Ecolo and Groen! ) Therefore agreed without the N -VA on September 15 on the sharing of BHV and 4 October 2011 on the whole package of the sixth state reform. Among the then incipient negotiations to form a federal government and the setting up of a necessary in the context of the financial and Euro crisis austerity budget the Greens were not invited. On 1 December 2011 (a few days after ratings agency Standard & Poor's rating of Belgium from AA had lowered to AA with a negative outlook ) could eventually form a coalition to be formed.

As a result, the local and provincial elections of 14 October 2012 took a reshuffle in the government held: Deputy Prime Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne (Open VLD) left after the adoption of the mayor's office in Kortrijk the government (Alexander De Croo was his successor ). Paul Magnette resigned in January 2013, the mayor's office in Charleroi and the chair of the PS; his successor in the government was Jean -Pascal Labille. On March 5, 2013 Finance Minister Steven Vanackere handed his resignation due to a suspected tax scandal of the Christian Workers Movement (Algemeen Christelijk Werknemersverbond - ACW ) that he was close to. As his successor, Koen Geens was appointed. On September 21, 2013 Jean -Pierre Hansen was described as government commissioner to conduct a structural reform of the NMBS / SNCB in the way.

Elio Di Rupo is the first Prime Minister of Belgium Walloon since Edmond Leburton (PS ) ( January 1973 - April 1974) and the first French-speaking prime minister since Paul Vanden Boeynants (PSC ) in 1978.
