Olivier Chastel
Olivier Chastel ( born November 22, 1964 in Liège ) is a Belgian politician of the Mouvement Réformateur ( MR). As local politicians of the opposition he received in Charleroi celebrity when he revealed the facts that triggered the so-called " Carolorégienne affair" and finally brought down the Walloon Prime Minister Jean -Claude Van Cauwenberghe (PS). Today Chastel is the current Federal Minister for the Budget and Administrative Simplification in the government Di Rupo.
Life
Olivier Chastel is a qualified pharmacist ( Université libre de Bruxelles, 1987). After several years of research, he transferred to a private sector sheep Royal pharmaceutical companies.
His political career began in 1993 when Chastel was elected to the municipal council of Charleroi. The leap into the Walloon Parliament and the Parliament of the French Community, he managed in 1998 as a replacement candidate for the retired Etienne Knoops (PRL ). In 1999 he was elected to the federal Chamber of Deputies, whose vice - president, he was from 2003. In 2004, Chastel was briefly Minister of Culture of the French Community, where he replaced the retiring Daniel Ducarme ( MR).
Belgienweite gained fame Oliver Chastel, however, until 2005, when he published an expert report on the misappropriation of public funds in the social real estate company La Carolorégienne. This sparked the " Carolorégienne affair ", which many personalities of the PS majority, including the serving Mayor Charles Van Gompel and the Walloon Prime Minister Jean -Claude Van Cauwenberghe, forced to resign. After the local elections of 2006, in which the PS lost its absolute majority in Charleroi and had to go into a coalition with the cdH and MR was Chastel First alderman of the city.
The jump in the federal government, he managed initially as a federal State Secretary for the preparation of the European Presidency in the government Leterme I under Minister Yves Leterme (CD & V). In 2011, Chastel was briefly Minister for Development Cooperation, Charles Michel after ( MR) resigned this office to take over the party chairmanship.
Since 2011, Olivier Chastel federal budget minister in the government under Prime Minister Di Rupo Elio Di Rupo (PS).
