Paul Marchand

Paul Marchand SMM ( born April 17, 1937 in Lafontaine, Ontario, † July 24, 2011 in Gracefield, Quebec ) was a Canadian religious clergyman and Roman Catholic Bishop of Timmins.

Life

Marchand went to college in the Montfortains Papineauville, Quebec, and then joined the Congregation of the Montfortains. He laid on August 15, 1956 from his profession and studied philosophy and theology at Saint -Jean- Seminar in Vanier, Ontario. Marchand received on 17 March 1962, the priesthood and studied Pastoral Theology at Saint Paul University and the University of Montreal and Biblical Studies at the University of Montreal. After pastoral work, he was Director of the Centre for Christian renewal in Drummondville (1967-1973 and 1979-1982 ). From 1973 to 1987 he was Director of the Reception House and Director of the Shrine of Mary Queen of Hearts in Montreal. He was from 1987 to 1990 pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes in Vanier and Provincial of the Montfortains and member of the Extraordinary General Meeting of Montfortains von 1990 to 1993.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Titular Bishop of Tamata 1993 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Ottawa. The episcopal ordination on 20 January 1993 in the Cathédrale Notre- Dame d' Ottawa gave him the Archbishop of Ottawa, Marcel André J. Gervais; Co-consecrators were his religious brother Gérard -Joseph Deschamps SMM, Bishop of Daru in New Guinea, and Gilles Bélisle, Archbishop Emeritus of Ottawa.

In 1999 he was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Timmins.
