Roman Catholic Diocese of Timmins

The Diocese of Timmins (Latin: Dioecesis Timminsensis ) is a location in Canada Roman Catholic diocese based in Timmins.

History

The Diocese of Timmins was established on September 21, 1908 by Pope Pius X made ​​cessions of territory of the Diocese of Pembroke as Apostolic Vicariate of Temiskaming. On December 31, 1915, the Vicariate Apostolic of Temiskaming was by Pope Benedict XV. raised to the bishopric and renamed diocese Haileybury. It was the Archdiocese of Ottawa is a suffragan. The Diocese of Haileybury was on 18 April 1919 from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Northern Ontario. Other annexations took place on December 3, 1938 establishing the bishopric of Amos and the establishment of the Apostolic Vicariate of James Bay.

On December 10, 1938, the Diocese of Haileybury was renamed the Diocese of Timmins. The Diocese of Timmins announced on November 29, 1973 from parts of its territory to the foundation of the diocese of Rouyn -Noranda.
