Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ottawa

The Archdiocese of Ottawa (Latin: Archidioecesis Ottaviensis ) is a location in Canada Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Ottawa.

History

The Archdiocese of Ottawa was on June 25, 1847 by Pope Pius IX. cessions of territory from the dioceses and Kingston Montréal erected as Diocese of Bytown. The Diocese of Bytown was renamed on 14 June 1860 in the diocese of Ottawa. On 11 July 1882, the Diocese of Ottawa were parts of its territory from establishing the Apostolic Vicariate Pontiac.

The Diocese of Ottawa was founded on June 8, 1886 by Pope Leo XIII. raised to an archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Ottawa announced on 21 April 1913 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Mont- Laurier. Other annexations took place on June 23, 1951 establishing the bishopric of Saint- Jérôme and on 27 April 1963 establishing the bishopric of Hull.
