Marie-Joseph Lemieux

Marie -Joseph Lemieux OP ( born May 10, 1902 in Quebec City, Canada, † 4 March 1994 ) was a Canadian Archbishop and Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Marie -Joseph Lemieux joined the Dominican Order, and put on 4 August 1924, the perpetual religious profession. He studied in Rome, Lille and Oxford and was ordained in Ottawa by Felix -Raymond -Marie Rouleau Cardinal OP on 15 April 1928 Chaplains of the Dominicans. He completed his first mission task in Japan.

Youngest Bishop

His appointment as Bishop of Hakodate, later diocese of Sendai ( Japan) on December 9, 1935, he was then the youngest bishop of the Roman Catholic Church in history. On June 29, 1936 Paolo Cardinal Marella and the co-consecrators Archbishop Jean -Baptiste -Alix Chambon MEP ( Archdiocese of Tokyo ) and Bishop Januarius Hayasaka Kyunosuke ( Diocese of Nagasaki ) consecrated him bishop. In 1941, he was forced to leave Japan for political reasons, he returned on January 16, 1941 back to Canada and was appointed as the exiled Bishop of Sendai Titular Bishop of Calydon. On 26 November 1942 he received the appointment as Apostolic Administrator in the Diocese of Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was appointed on 15 April 1944 to the Bishop of Gravelbourg and on 28 May 1944, which took office.

Archbishop and nuncio

This was followed on 20 July 1953, the appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Ottawa, September 17, 1953, he was officially introduced to his new office. On September 16, 1966, he retired from the office of bishop of Ottawa and became the titular "pro hac vice " appointed by Saldae. From 1966-1968 he was Apostolic Nuncio to Haiti and then to 1969 at the same apostolic delegate in the Antilles. This was followed on 16 September 1969, the Office of the Apostolic Nuncio to India, on 30 May 1969, he was Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in India. On February 16, 1971, he was transferred to the age- retirement and knew until his death on March 4, 1994, the office of a retired nuncio to India.

General

Archbishop Lemieux was a participant in all sessions of the Second Vatican Council and was consultant to the " Preparatory Commission for the bishops and dioceses ." He dedicated Paul -Émile Charbonneau, Joseph Raymond Windle ( Titular Bishop of Uzita ) and René Audet bishops, and Edgerton Roland Clarke and Gordon Anthony Pantin CSSp to archbishops. The Episcopal Ordination of Peter Cardinal Doi Tatsuo and Aimé DeCosse ( Bishop of Gravelbourg ) he assisted as Mitkonsekrator. His motto was: " IN CHRIST caritate ".
