Paolo Marella
Paolo Cardinal Marella ( born January 25, 1895 in Rome, Italy, † October 15, 1984 ibid ) was Vatican diplomat and later became a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.
Life
Paolo Marella studied in Rome, the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology, and received on February 23, 1918 Cardinal Vicar Basilio Pompilj the sacrament of Holy Orders. After further studies and activities as a pastor in Rome he joined in 1922 in the service of the Congregation De Propaganda Fide one. From 1924 to 1933 he was a member of first as an auditor and later as charge d' affaires to the staff of the Apostolic Delegation in the USA. On April 5, 1933 awarded the title House Prelate of His Holiness was awarded.
Pope Pius XI. appointed him on 15 September 1933 Titular Archbishop of Duklja and apostolic delegate in Japan. The bishop He was ordained by the prefect of the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith, Cardinal Pietro Biondi Fumasoni. The task of the apostolic delegate knew Paolo Marella 1948-1953 as well as in Australia, New Zealand and Oceania. 1953 Pope Pius XII appointed him. Apostolic Nuncio to France.
Pope John XXIII. took Paolo Marella December 14, 1959 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Sant'Andrea delle Fratte to the College of Cardinals. He participated in the years 1962-1965 at the Second Vatican Council and represented the Pope in the following years in several ceremonies as Papal Legate. From 1964 to 1973 he was president of the Pontifical Council for non - Christians. On March 15, 1972, he was named Paul VI. Cardinal Bishop of Porto and Santa Rufina. In 1961 he was appointed Prefect of the Vatican Basilica and after refactoring and renaming of this office by Paul VI. Marella in 1967 was appointed President of the Fabric of St. Peter's. This office he resigned at the age of now 88 years on February 8, 1983.
Paolo Marella died on October 15, 1984 in Rome and was buried in the cemetery " Campo Verano ".
