Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton
The Archdiocese of Edmonton (Latin: Archidioecesis Edmontonensis ) is a location in Canada Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Edmonton.
History
The Archdiocese of Edmonton was posted on September 22, 1871 by Pope Pius IX. out of territory of the diocese of Saint -Boniface erected as a diocese of Saint Albert. The Diocese of Saint Albert was on November 30, 1912 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Calgary.
On 30 November 1912, the Diocese of Saint Albert was elevated to an archdiocese by Pope Pius X. and renamed the Archdiocese of Edmonton. The Archdiocese of Edmonton announced on July 17, 1948 parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Saint Paul in Alberta.
