Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kingston

The Archdiocese of Kingston (Latin: Archidioecesis Regiopolitanus ) is a location in Canada Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Kingston.

History

The Archdiocese of Kingston was established on January 12, 1819 by Pope Pius VII from cessions of territory of the Diocese of Quebec as Apostolic Vicariate of Upper Canada. On January 17, 1826 Apostolic Vicariate of Upper Canada was by Pope Leo XII. raised to the bishopric and renamed diocese Kingston. The Diocese of Kingston was on December 17, 1841 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Toronto. Other annexations took place on June 25, 1847 establishing the bishopric of Bytown and on January 25, 1874 establishing the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Canada. On 11 July 1882, the Diocese of Kingston were from other parts of its territory to the Diocese of Peterborough.

The Diocese of Kingston was born on December 28, 1889 by Pope Leo XIII. raised to an archbishopric. On January 21, 1890, the Archdiocese of Kingston were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Alexandria in Ontario.
