Francis John Spence

Francis John Spence ( born June 3, 1926 in Perth, Canada, † July 27, 2011 in Kingston, Canada) was Archbishop of Kingston.

Life

Francis John Spence received on 16 April 1950, and was ordained priest incardinated in the clergy of the Archdiocese of Kingston. Pope Paul VI. appointed him on April 1, 1967 Titular Bishop of Nova and appointed him as Auxiliary Bishop of the Military Ordinariate Canadian. The Archbishop of Quebec, Cardinal Maurice Roy, donated to him on 15 June of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Joseph Anthony O'Sullivan, Archbishop Emeritus of Kingston, and Joseph Raymond Windle, Auxiliary Bishop of Ottawa.

On August 17, 1970, he was appointed Bishop of Charlottetown. On April 24, 1982, he was appointed Archbishop of Kingston and introduced on 30 June of the same year into office. On March 14, 1982, he was appointed bishop of the Canadian Military Ordinariate and stepped back from the post on 28 October 1987. He was president of the Canadian Bishops' Conference of 1995 to 1997.

27 April 2002 John Paul II accepted his resignation due to age.
