Richard William Smith

Richard William Smith ( born April 28, 1959 in Halifax, Nova Scotia ) is a Canadian clergyman of the Catholic Church and Archbishop of Edmonton.

Life

Richard William Smith received on 23 May 1987, the ordination. He studied at the Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax and graduated from a theological doctoral studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was Genervikar in the Archdiocese of Halifax.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 27 April 2002 appointed Bishop of Pembroke. The Archbishop of Ottawa, Marcel André J. Gervais, donated to him on 18 June of the same year the episcopal ordination; Terrence Thomas Prendergast co-consecrators were SJ, Archbishop of Halifax, and Austin -Emile Burke, Archbishop Emeritus of Halifax. As a motto Fiat Voluntas Tua he chose.

On 22 March 2007 he was appointed Archbishop of Edmonton and introduced into the office on 1 May of the same year.

Richard William Smith was until September 25, 2013 Chairman of the Canadian Bishops' Conference ( CECC ).

He is a member of the Knights of Columbus.
