Thomas Christopher Collins

Thomas Christopher Cardinal Collins ( born January 16, 1947 in Guelph, Canada), Archbishop of Toronto.

Life

Thomas Collins received on 5 May 1973, the sacrament of Holy Orders. He then studied Catholic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and received his doctorate in theology. In 1978, Collins teacher at the seminary of London, Ontario and 1995 rain this seminar.

On 25 March 1997, Pope John Paul II appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Saint Paul in Alberta. He received his episcopal consecration Bishop Anthony Frederick Tonnos on 14 May of the same year. Co-consecrators were the bishops Raymond Roy and John Michael Sherlock. As a motto he chose Deum Adora (Rev 22.9 EU). On 30 June 1997 Thomas Collins was eventually bishop of Saint Paul in Alberta. Pope John Paul II appointed Collins on February 18, 1999 Koadjutorerzbischof of Edmonton. Thomas Collins was finally held on 7 June of the same year, Archbishop of this Archdiocese. He took office on 13 September 1999. On 16 March 2001, Pope John Paul II appointed Apostolic Administrator of the diocese in addition to Saint Paul in Alberta. From this office Collins resigned on 8 September of the same year.

On December 16, 2006 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. Archbishop of Toronto. This took office Collins on 30 January 2007. In addition, he was appointed Benedict XVI. on 5 January 2010 Member of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.

In solemn consistory of February 18, 2012 it took Benedict XVI. as cardinal priest with the titular church of San Patrizio in the College of Cardinals.

He is Grand Prior of the Order of the province Toronto Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem.
