Paul Oscher

Paul Osher ( born April 5, 1950 Brooklyn, New York) is an American blues singer, songwriter, guitarist, pianist and harmonica player.

Life

Paul Osher started the harmonica at age 12 when his uncle gave him a harmonica. At 15, he appeared as a duo with guitarist and singer Little Jimmy Mae on in black clubs in New York. Mid -1960s, he met Muddy Waters at the Apollo Theater and the Muddy Waters as 1967, the band had no harmonica player, he jumped. Muddy Waters took him in his band and he played until 1971 in this formation. He lived at that time in the house Muddy Waters ', together with Otis Spann, from whom he learned to play the piano.

After the separation of Waters he formed under the name Brooklyn Slim own band. His band played under the other with Big Joe Turner, Doc Pomus, Victoria Spivey, Big Walter Horton and Johnny Copeland. With Louisiana Red, they went on a European tour.

In the 1980s, he retired from the music business and went after a day job, but in 1992 he returned. After a U.S. tour with Jimmy Rogers and Muddy Waters Tribute Band 1995 he took his first album ( The Deep Blues of Paul Osher ) on. With the subsequent recording Knockin 'on the Devils ' Door he has already received a nomination for a WC Handy Award.

Today, Paul Osher touring as a solo artist or with a trio. Currently he is also working on a book about his experiences in the Blue business. As a former sideman for Muddy Waters, he inspired many young musicians, such as Rick Estrin, Jerry Portnoy, Paul deLay and William Clark.
