Jerry Portnoy

Jerry Portnoy ( born November 25, 1943 in Evanston, Illinois) is an American blues musician, a virtuoso on the harmonica.

Life

Jerry Portnoy was born in Evanston but grew up in the blue -filled environment of Chicago's Maxwell Street. End of the 1960s he began his career as a professional musician. In the 1970's Portnoy played in the band of Muddy Waters. In 1980 he founded together with Calvin " Fuzz " Jones ( bass), Pinetop Perkins ( piano) and Willie "Big Eyes" Smith ( drums), all from the band of Muddy Waters, the Legendary Blues Band.

In 1986, Portnoy moved temporarily back from the music business. In 1987 he founded with Ronnie Earl the Broadcasters. From 1989 he had his own band, the Streamliners. From 1991 to 1993 Portnoy played in Eric Clapton's blues band. Occasionally, Jerry Portnoy, in addition to their own performances, with the " Muddy Waters Tribute Band" on the go.

Portnoy took his skills together on the harmonica in Jerry Portnoy 's Blues Harmonica Masterclass, a textbook with three CDs.
