Paul Ritter (painter)

Paul Knight ( born March 4, 1829 in Nuremberg, † November 27, 1907 in Nuremberg ) was a German painter and student of Carl Alexander Heideloff.

Life

At the age of four years, Paul Ritter was deaf by illness. He studied painting and graphics at the School of Applied Arts Nuremberg, traveled to France, Italy, Denmark and Austria.

Knight was particularly known for his large-format images of the old architecture with historic Nuremberg figural against the background of the architecture of the old faithful historically presented. Among his most famous images in the collection include The Nuremberg old show to Nuremberg with the reception of Gustavus Adolphus in 1632, The Beautiful Fountain 1632 The introduction of the imperial regalia in Nuremberg in 1424 and The White Tower with environment.

Throughout his life, he worked closely with his brother, Lorenz Ritter ( 1832-1921 ). 1888 was appointed Paul Knight by the Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria to the " Royal Professor ". He taught with the help of his brother at the School of Applied Arts in Nuremberg.

Paul Knight is considered the most important architectural painter of German historicism. On the 100th anniversary of his death, he was recognized in fall 2007 of the painting and sculpture collection of the Museum of the City of Nuremberg by a large exhibition.

Paul Knight remained unmarried and had no children. However, he maintained a close relationship with his brother Lawrence and his children.

He was buried on 29 November 1907 on the Nuremberg St. John's Cemetery, where his grave ( St. John IU / 145) is still located.
