Paul Ssemogerere

Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere (* 1932 in Bumanji, Kalangala District ) is a Ugandan politician. He is the chairman of the Democratic Party ( DP).

Ssemogerere studied at Makerere University education and continued his studies at Allegheny College in Meadville (Pennsylvania) and at the University of Syracuse continues. Between 1957 and 1973 he was a lecturer at various colleges in Uganda.

In the presidential elections of December 10, 1980 was subject Ssemogerere Milton Obote of Uganda People's Congress. He was thereupon 1981-1985 Leader of the Opposition.

After the fall of Obote in 1985, he was Minister of the Interior until 1988 and from 1988 to 1994 under Yoweri Museveni foreign minister. From 1994 to 1995 he was Minister for the Civil Service. In the election to the presidency in 1996 it reached 22.3 % of the vote and came in second place behind Museveni.
