Paul W. Hodge

Paul William Hodge ( born 1934 in Washington, DC) is an American astronomer.

Hodge studied physics at Yale and received his doctorate in astronomy at Harvard University. Together with George Wallerstein 1965, he founded the Astronomy Department of the University of Washington where he has since been professor. From 1984 to 2004 he was editor of the Astronomical Journal.

His recent research focuses on the properties of star formation in nearby galaxies, including the Andromeda galaxy. His studies of Barnard's Galaxy resulted in 1977 in a paper in which he identified 16 H II regions - ie areas with large amounts of ionized atomic hydrogen, which are stellar nurseries. According to him, these are referred to as 1 Hodge Hodge 16.
