Paul Wendkos

Paul Wendkos (actually: Abraham Paul Wendkos; born September 20, 1922 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † November 12, 2009 in Malibu, California ) was an American film director.

Life

Paul Wendkos studied film history and aesthetics at the New School for Social Research, and began his career with documentaries. In 1957 he moved on to feature films; there he became the profiled director, who was responsible for over 110 feature films and television movies or TV series episodes. Among them were successful formats such as Route 66, West of Santa Fe or The Untouchables. From the 1970s he specialized in drama; In 1988 he was for the TV movie 847 - excellent flight of terror with the Emmy Award.

Among his work for the big screen the teen comedies to April (1959 /61), the Western - Sequel Guns of the Magnificent Seven (1968 ) and the horror film Mephisto Waltz (1971). After 1971 Paul Wendkos worked as a director only for television productions.

1999 Wendkos withdrew into private life. He died on November 12, 2009 in Malibu, California at the age of 87 years
