Paul Zucker

Paul Zucker ( born August 14, 1888 in Berlin, † February 14, 1971 in New York City ) was a German architect.

Life

Paul Zucker studied architecture and art history in Berlin and Munich; he graduated with the degree of Diploma Engineer ( Dipl. -Ing. ) from University of Technology ( Berlin ) Charlottenburg. In 1913 he received his doctorate in the Doctor of Engineering ( Dr. -Ing. ) With a thesis on " representations of space and image architectures in the Florentine painters of the first half of the Quattrocento ." 1920-1923 he worked as an editor of the journal for history and aesthetics of architecture. In addition to teaching at various private educational institutions in Berlin he designed in the 1920s many country houses and shop fittings. In 1933 he was in Nazi Germany for racist reasons disbarment. He emigrated in 1934 to the United States, 1944 U.S. citizen and worked there as a lecturer in architecture and art history at the New School for Social Research and at the Cooper Union Art School in New York City. He created with another 1943 at the test site Dugway Proving Ground in Utah, the so-called German village, a realistic replica of Berlin tenements. Here, various explosive and incendiary bombs were tested for their effect on this design.
