Paula Jean Myers-Pope

Paula Jean Pope, born as Paula Jean Myers, ( born November 11, 1934 in Lackawanna, Erie County, New York, † June 9, 1995 in Ventura, California ) was an American water jumper, who won medals in three Olympics.

Your first Olympic medal she won as Paula Myers in platform diving at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki. With silver behind Patricia McCormick and Juno Irwin before they contributed to the success of triple jumpers from the United States. Even at the Olympics 1956, this three jumpers won all three medals from the tower. McCormick won ahead of Irwin and Myers.

In 1957 she won after the resignation of McCormick every five championship AAU, she won a total of eleven championship of the AAU. In 1958 she married Charles Pope. At the Pan American Games in 1959 Pope won the competitions in diving and diving. At the Olympic Games in 1960 should continue the winning streak of the U.S. Springer, who had won all the gold medals since 1924, both from the board and from the tower. But the young Ingrid Krämer from Dresden could not be beaten by Pope, Pope won behind Chandler both silver medals.

In 1957 she completed her studies at the University of Southern California. After her career, she worked as a trainer in the swimming school of Samuel Lee. Later she ran with her husband in Ojai a club racquet, tennis and swimming. In 1979, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
