Pauline Sperry

Pauline Sperry ( born March 5, 1885 in Peabody, Massachusetts, † September 24, 1967 in Pacific Grove, California ) was an American mathematician.

She came from the Peabody Essex County. The college degree she made at Smith College. In 1906 she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. A few years she then worked as a teacher at Smith College. From 1913 she studied mathematics at the University of Chicago and received her Ph.D. there in 1916. Sigma Xi honored her for it. Another year, she then taught at Smith College. Her academic career began in 1917 at the University of California, Berkeley. There, in 1923 they became the first assistant professor. She has worked in the areas of analytical geometry and differential geometry. In the McCarthy era it came as Hans Lewy in trouble and was suspended in 1950, but in 1952 used on court order again formally, although they had reached retirement age. Politically, it has been active in a for Quakerism and against nuclear weapons testing. She died in Pacific Grove.
