Pavlo Yakovenko

Pavlo Yakovenko (Ukrainian Павло Олександрович Яковенко, Russian Павел Александрович Яковенко; born December 19, 1964 in Nikopol, Ukrainian SSR ) is a former Soviet- Ukrainian football player and current football coach.

Yakovenko began his career as a football player in 1981 in the team Metalist Kharkiv. In 1982 he moved to Dynamo Kiev and has been with this team in the following years three times Soviet Champion and three times Soviet Cup winner. In the 1985/86 season he won the European Cup with Dynamo and the Cup Winners' Cup.

For the Soviet national Yakovenko played between 1986 and 1990 a total of 19 times and scored one goal. He participated in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico in part, in this tournament, the midfielder came three times for use in the game against Hungary and scored his only goal for the national team.

Due to multiple injuries came Yakovenko after 1988 only sporadically inserts in the starting eleven of Dynamo Kiev and in the national team. In 1992 he moved to France for FC Sochaux, but due to injury he also came there rarely used and ended at the beginning of the 1993/94 season his active career.

From 1994 Yakovenko trained initially unterklassige Ukrainian and Russian clubs, including the FK Elista. From 2000, he coached the Ukrainian U-19 and in 2002 the Ukrainian U-21 national team.

Between 2004 and 2007, was Yakovenko head coach of several teams of Russian Premjer League, he coached the FK Khimki FK Kuban Krasnodar and FC Rostov.

Since 2008 Pavel Yakovenko is responsible for the Ukrainian U- 21 team again.

His son, Oleksandr (* 1987) is a Ukrainian national team and currently plays for KVC Westerlo in Belgium.
