KVC Westerlo

The KVC Westerlo is a football club based in Westerlo in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The club plays since 1997 in the Belgian First Division. He is affiliated to the Royal Belgian Football Association, where it has the registration number 2024. The club colors are yellow and blue. One of the greatest successes in the club's history is one of winning the Belgian Cup in 2001.

History

In 1917, students in the club Westerlo Sportkring de Have Westerlo, whose business was discontinued in 1922 again. From 1924 to 1930 was a time of Westerlo Footbaal Club, which was registered under number 379 at the Belgian Football Association. 1931, including the former club was re- formed and Sports Have joined the Belgian Football Association on October 1, 1933 under the name Sportkring Westerloo, where he was given the number 2027. Some players had left the club and founded the club Westerlo sport that was also entered on October 1, 1933 the Belgian Football Federation and the number was assigned in 2024. Finally, the two clubs closed on August 5 in 1942 to Voetbalclub Westerlo, who was henceforth operate under the number 2024.

1968 emerged the club for the first time in the lowest Belgian league, was able to prevail there, and was promoted to the Second Division. After two seasons, however, the Voetbalclub Westerlo climbed back into the Fourth League and in 1981 was also there no longer hold. 1984 has again succeeded in promotion to the Fourth League and for 1985/86 season, the club was able to switch to the Second Division. In 1993 they had there, winning the title, so the club for the first time in its history, rising in the Second Division. After the Voetbalclub 1994 had been awarded the royal title, the club was called officially Koninklijke Voetbalclub Westerlo. 1997 Westerlo sat through in the final round of the second division and was promoted to the First League.

There, the club played mostly in the midfield with the league. In the 1999/2000 season, the club with Toni Brogno and his 30 hits could make the top scorer of the Belgian First Division.

In the same season the club was able to establish a reputation as a home strong team. KVC Westerlo lost in their own stadium 't Kuipke only once during the season. Big clubs like FC Bruges or Standard Liege had to leave the field as losers. The RSC Anderlecht, who was on the verge of the championship, even lost 5-0 in Westerlo. The club also holds a Belgian record held by defeating the KV Mechelen at home with 8:0.

2001, the club won the Belgian Cup competition though, but the game years later were not so successful. Some key players left the club and Westerlo did not have the means to replace the player equivalent. Westerlo was a gray mouse in the Belgian Jupiler League.

Under the leadership of President Herman Wijnants to Westerlo should solve the "gray mouse " image. There partnerships with Feyenoord and Chelsea were closed. Through this collaboration, some players were briefly loaned out to Westerlo.

2005 coach Jan Ceulemans moved to FC Bruges. Ceulemans sat for six years on the bench of the Association of Westerlo. He was succeeded by Herman Helleputte. During the summer break in 2005 known Belgian players like Ronny Gaspercic and Nico van Kerckhoven were committed.

The 2004/05 season ended Westerlo in fourth place with just one point behind third-placed. From 2007 to 2012, the KVC Westerlo was re-trained by Jan Ceulemans. In the 2008 /09 season the club reached the 6th place in the Jupiler Pro League. Since 2008 Westerlo busy with Julius Berger Nigeria PLC group Westerlo Football Academy in Lagos.

After the 2011/12 season as they rose from second to last in the second division.
