Pedro de Cordoba

Pedro de Cordoba ( born September 28, 1881 in New York City, New York, † September 16, 1950 in Sunland, California ) was an American actor.

Life

De Cordoba, a French mother and a Cuban, began his career in the theater. He celebrated his Broadway debut in 1902 in a production of Hamlet. It was followed by appearances including in Shakespearean productions of The Taming of the Shrew, Twelfth Night, The Winter's Tale and Othello. In 1915 he turned silent films and has starred in three Cecil B. DeMille productions, including an adaptation of Carmen. By 1925, he made a total of 25 silent films, but returned always returns to Broadway. Only with the advent of the talkies, he devoted himself fully to his film career, and returned to Broadway in 1935 the back. That same year, he starred alongside Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland and Basil Rathbone in the pirate movie Captain Blood, and was one of the few silent film actor who could move without difficulty in the talkies. In most cases, he was set to roles as Spaniards or Mexicans; therefore was indeed granted him great film career, but he was asked to 1950 as a character actor. Among other things, he was standing next to Marlene Dietrich, Frederic March, Bette Davis and Tyrone Power in front of the camera. In 1942 he played a supporting role in Alfred Hitchcock's saboteurs. From the mid- 1940s, his roles were small. He worked until shortly before his death on front of the camera, his last film was released posthumously.
