Pedro de Ribadeneira

Pedro de Ribadeneyra ( born November 1, 1527 Toledo, † September 22, 1611 in Madrid) was a Spanish Jesuit, religious politician and historian.

Ribadeneyra joined with thirteen years as a page in the service of Alessandro Farnese. In 1540 he was inducted into the Society of Jesus. He studied in Paris, Leuven and Padova. From 1549 he worked as a teacher of rhetoric in Palermo and from 1552, he became the first director of the Collegium Germanicum in Rome, where he received priestly ordination in 1553.

From this time Pedro de Ribadeneyra the consolidation and spread of the Society of Jesus was dedicated. He was provincial in Tuscany, Sicily and Assistant Commissioner in the Order generals for Spanish and Portuguese affairs.

1574 Ribadeneyra returned back to his home and devoted himself to writing tradition secure the Jesuits. He wrote biographies of Ignatius of Loyola, Diego Lainez and Francis of Borgia. He translated the works of Augustine and Albertus Magnus into Spanish, and wrote a schism to English history the 16th century. The writers and writings of the Order held in Ribadeneyra Catalogus Scriptorum religionis the Society of Jesus, which was completed after his death by Philip Alegambe fixed.
