Pedro Pierluisi

Pedro R. Pierluisi Urrutia ( born April 26, 1959 in San Juan ) is a Puerto Rican politician. Since 2009, he represented Puerto Rico as a delegate ( Resident Commissioner ) in the House of Representatives of the United States.

Career

Pedro Pierluisi studied until 1981 at Tulane University in New Orleans. After a subsequent law studies at the George Washington University in Washington DC and his 1984 was admitted as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. Politically, he was first on the staff of Congress delegates Baltasar Corrada del Río active. He was a member of the Democratic Party and the Puerto Rican Partido Nuevo Progresista. From 1993 to 1996 he served as Minister of Justice of Puerto Rico.

In the congressional elections of 2008, Pierluisi was elected for four years as a non-voting delegate in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of Luis Fortuño on January 3, 2009. He is a member of the Ethics Committee, the Judiciary Committee and the Committee on Natural Resources, and in three sub-committees and the Congressional Arts Caucus.

In November 2012 Pierluisi was elected for another four years in its mandate. He sat down with 48:43 percent of the vote against Rafael Cox Alomar by the Partido Popular Democrático.
